History

The College of Engineering at the National Chiao Tung University was established in 1967.The college consists of three departments (Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering), two institute (Environmental Engineering, and Nanotechnology), 11 degree programs of engineering (Degree Program of Industrial Safety and Risk Management, Degree Program of Automation and Precision Engineering, Degree Program of Construction Technology and Management, Degree Program of Semiconductor, Material and Processing Equipment, Degree Program of Environmental Technology for Sustainability, Industrial Technology R&D Master Program on Semiconductor Materials & Processes, Industrial Technology R&D Master Program on Imaging & Display, and Degree Program of Flat Panel Display Technology, The Degree Program of Nano Science and Engineering, Science and Technology of Accelerator Light Source Graduate Program, Master Program of Sound and Music Innovative Technologies), a machine shop, and four research centers (Manufacturing and Thermal Fluid Engineering Research Center, Manufacturing Automation Research Center, The Energy Technology and Management Research Center, and The Natural Hazard Mitigation Research Center). The machine shop, which is equipped with different kinds of CNC, and material testing machines, supports teaching and research activities in the university. The research centers collaborate with each other in conducting integrated research projects funded by the government and the local industries.

 

The college has highly qualified faculty members and among them more than 98% have earned their Ph. D. in the areas of their specialties. They are active in both teaching and research and also have close tie with the local industry. In the past three decades, the College has well-trained numerous graduates to serve the country that has been greatly benefited from their services and accomplishments. In the mean time, the College greatly benefited from their services and accomplishments. In the mean time, the College is striving to expend its size and initiate larger collaborated research projects with the industry so that more well-trained graduates can be produced for the country.
