College of Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) hosted a distinguished seminar titled “Meet the Editor: Stories behind Journal Publications” on March 16, 2026. The event featured Dr. Zhen (Jason) He from Washington University in St. Louis, attracting enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students.
Dr. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of two internationally renowned journals, Journal of Hazardous Materials (Impact Factor: 11.3) and Water Environment Research. With extensive experience in academic publishing and peer review, he provided valuable insights into the manuscript submission, review, and publication processes from an editor’s perspective.
During the seminar, Dr. He shared practical strategies on how to improve manuscript quality, select appropriate journals, and effectively respond to reviewers’ comments. He also highlighted key factors that high-impact journals consider when evaluating submissions, emphasizing the importance of originality, clarity, and research significance. Through real-world examples, he offered actionable advice to help researchers enhance their chances of successful publication.
